Depicted with the body of the Lion of Nemea, Hercules holds the Golden Apples that he had just stolen from Atlas to gather in the Garden of the Hesperides.
The original of this sculpture was discovered at the site of the Baths of Caracalla in Rome until 1787 and was exhibited in the courtyard of the Farnese Palace before being deposited in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Our sculpture was made of plaster in the nineteenth century and beyond remains from an artist considered a major figure in French painting of the nineteenth century.
